“Feelings are much like waves, we can’t stop them from coming, however we can choose which ones to surf.”- Unknown Artist
Emotions are necessary for survival, however they can also spin out of control if we let them. Yes I said “let” them. Which means that yes we can learn to master our emotions. Are emotions a bad thing? No, they are not. I once heard of a married couple that was having marital problems and sought the help of a therapist. In one meeting the husband leans forward, and in a low intense voice says, “Look, it wasn’t my idea to see a therapist. And I hear that all you do is all about emotions. Well that about counts me out. First, I don’t have them the way she does.” He points to his wife, who is staring angrily at the floor. “Second, I don’t want to have them or talk about them”. Now I’m no therapist, however I do know that he is right about one thing. She does have more emotions than him. We (woman) were made that way, being that we came after the man. When we (woman) were made our Creator put more of the delicate emotions in us, such as feelings, sensitivity, happiness, comfort, etc. So they could carry out their duties without being hampered by all those different feelings. Makes sense? Whichever of these emotions he needs, he gets from the woman. So before we go too far into this thing, let’s roll that movie!

INSIDE OUT! Yes it’s a children’s movie, however remember that is the last place that people will look for the truth. So that’s where the devil put most of the truths.
A girl named Riley is born in Minnesota, within her minds “head” quarters lives five basic emotions; Joy, Fear, Disgust, Anger, and Sadness. The emotions influence Riley’s actions by a control console. Riley’s memories are stored in colored orbs, which are sent into long term memory each night by a suction tube. Riley’s most important memories, known as “core memories”, are housed in a hub in headquarters and power five “islands”, each of which reflects a different aspect of Riley’s personality. Joy’s purpose is to keep Riley happy. Fear’s purpose is to protect Riley from danger. Disgust’s purpose is to protect Riley’s health and social status, and Anger’s purpose is to ensure that Riley is treated fairly. However no one seems to understand Sadness’s purpose (even Sadness herself), Joy tries to keep her from using the console, or even touching any of the orbs.

Riley leads a very happy life with her loving parents, participation in hockey and love for Minnesota, her home state, with the help of her emotions. However when she moves to San Francisco, after she turns 11. Riley is disappointed by her lifeless new home, and is further disappointed by other difficulties: the moving van with all their belongings gets lost, her father is under a lot of stress. Joy starts worrying when Sadness begins touching Riley’s happy memories, causing them to become sad, so she tries to keep Sadness isolated. On Riley’s first day at her new school, Sadness gets her hands on one of Riley’s memories, turning it into a sad core memory causing Riley to cry in front of her classmates.

Joy tries to dispose of it before it reaches the core memory hub, however instead knocks the other core memories loose during a struggle with Sadness, depowering the personality islands. Joy runs around trying to collect the core memories, she and Sadness are sucked out of headquarters by the memory tube into the maze-like storage area of the long term memory, taking the core memories with them. Oh no! I knew I was forgetting something! SUPER SPOILER ALERT!!! Lol better late than never!
So now Joy is gone, along with Sadness. Which leaves Anger, Fear, and Disgust to run headquarters and things go from bad to terrible lol. Not only do they fail to keep Riley happy, Riley’s changing mood distances her from her parents, friends and hobbies. Soon her personality islands start to crumble and fall one by one into the memory dump, an abyss where memories are forgotten. Finally Anger takes over and prompts Riley to run away, thinking that the only way for Riley to be happy is for her to go back to Minnesota.
Riley’s parents don’t know what’s going on with her. They’re not used to seeing they’re happy girl go through such a mood change. This is really funny because they show the emotions inside of the parents heads, lol which shows that people have different personalities. Joy doesn’t run things in the mother’s head, Sadness has the control over the console, and Anger has the wheel inside her father’s. I see this as the animators’ way of saying that the mother is more inclined toward being more melancholy, and the dad may have a harder time keeping his temper in check, because of all the stress he’s under.

So let’s explore the differences for a moment shall we? Why is Sadness in control in the mom’s head? It could be that as we mature our emotions become more mature, we gain a greater serenity within ourselves. Now as for the dad, what I see is the fathers’ role is the disciplinarian, and that being the case it would make sense for Anger to be in charge of the console in his head, especially dealing with the stress of his new job (which bears witness to the making of the woman and putting the more delicate emotions in us).
And back to the story… Joy and Sadness are still trying to get back to headquarters, however they can’t find their way back. They encounter Bing Bong, Riley’s childhood imaginary friend, who helps them by telling them they can ride back to headquarters on the Train of thought. The three eventually catch the train, however it gets derailed when one of the personality islands collapses. Joy and Sadness find out that Riley is planning to runaway, in desperation Joy abandons Sadness and tries to get back to headquarters in a recall tube, however the last personality island collapses and breaking the tube and dropping Joy and Bing Bong into the Memory Dump. Joy loses hope and starts crying, then she discovers a sad memory of a hockey game that becomes happy when Riley’s parents and friends comfort her. Joy sees that Sadness has an important role after all, she alerts others when Riley is emotionally overwhelmed and needs help. Joy eventually makes it out of the Memory Dump, and finds a way to propel herself and Sadness through the air and into headquarters. Angers idea has disabled the console, leaving Riley feeling numb and apathetic. To the surprise of the others Joy allows Sadness to take charge of the consoles. Sadness removes the idea, reactivating the console and prompting Riley to return home.

As Riley returns, Joy allows Sadness to touch the core memories, turning them sad. Riley bursts into tears and told her parents that she missed her home in Minnesota, and they told her that they also missed their old life and that it’s okay.
This film was directed and co-written by Pete Docter. Docter began developing Inside Out in 2009 after noticing changes in his daughter’s personality as she grew older. I really enjoyed this movie. It tells us that it’s okay to have emotions, and that they all play a very important role in making us who we are. The key is learning how to control them. Without a doubt, our emotions dictate our thoughts, intentions and actions. However when we act on our emotions too quickly, or we act on the wrong kinds of emotions, we often make decisions that we later regret. Why is it necessary to master emotions? It is necessary to master emotions in this day and time, because The Creator is at war with the unseen devil ( Satan), and the grafted devil, to successfully bring about their total destruction spiritually, mentally and physically. In order for us not to get caught up with the negative force working against The Creator, we must master our emotions.
Riley being young has not learned to master her emotions, much less understand them. Even most adults have a hard time controlling their emotions. To successfully master our emotions, one must have three things: 1. diet, 2. reason, and 3. submission.
Proper diet- Eating properly allows us to strengthen the positive side of ourselves, thereby allowing us to;
Reason- The capacity to determine or conclude by logical or mathematical thinking; and
Submission- To yield or surrender (oneself) to the will or authority of another.
This country does so much to make sure that we don’t master our emotions, they want to control us through our emotions and they do this through the processed foods, junk foods, pork, meats (diet). The music that we listen to, rap, heavy metal all these are ways to ensure that we don’t learn to master our emotions or gain the ability to reason.
In scripture we read that we have free will; in reality there is only one will and that is The Creator’s. The devil has a wish to stop The Creator’s will, yet The Creator allows you to choose which one you will express, therefore technically, we have free choice. This is why you must overcome your emotions- the part of the consciousness that justifies motion in order to properly make an intelligent decision. Based on your choice, you will either be with The Creator and express truth and righteousness forever and consistently, or be the devils advocate and express him temporarily–until your and his destruction.
So remember, emotions properly expressed are a beautiful experience that gives pleasure to both male and female, especially when both are balanced.
Well that’s all for now, be sure to see the movie. I’m sure if you have children then you already have, and if not see it anyway, because like I said before children’s movies are full of keys too. My will is that you received something that assisted you in this blog and be sure to comment and subscribe. And until next time…have a peaceful night’s rest and a happy morning rise.
